Softball Draws Senior Day Split With Dubuque

LINCOLN (April 16, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball teams split its doubleheader with the University of Dubuque on senior day at University Place Park in Lincoln. NWU won game one by run rule, 8-0, in six innings then fell, 6-3, in game two.

Game One Recap
The Prairie Wolves wasted little time to start their offense. Taylor Styskal's double to left field, driving in Paige Davison and Val Gerlach for a 2-0 first inning lead. Two innings later, Kailey Meyer knocked another two-run double to score Gerlach and Emma Alfieri.

The two-run doubles didn't stop there. Alfieri added two more runs to the board with a double to centerfield and scored Davison and Hanna Roth for a 6-0 advantage in the fourth inning.

In the sixth frame, Nebraska Wesleyan's offense struck again with more runs. Davison lined a single through the left side of the infield, which plated Roth. Gerlach drove in Davison with another RBI single. Gerlach's RBI applied the run-rule for NWU.

Kailey Meyer picked up the complete-game shutout for the Prairie Wolves. Meyer only surrendered three hits and three walks to go with six strikeouts. For Meyer, it was her fourth complete game of the season.

Game Two Recap
Nebraska Wesleyan's offense carried the momentum from game one into game two. After the Spartans put two runs up in the top of the first inning, NWU responded with two runs of its own. Val Gerlach launched a home run to left field, Gerlach's second home run of the season.

But UD found a way to contain the Prairie Wolf offense, which was held scoreless until the seventh inning. NWU plated a run on a Paige Davison single. But it would not be enough to overcome Dubuque's three-run lead.
