LINCOLN (April 16, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball split its doubleheader with Luther College at NWU Field. The Prairie Wolves won game one, 9-4, then fell in game two, 6-1.
Game One Recap
The Prairie Wolves used a pair of runs in the sixth inning to cut into an early deficit. Luther broke out to a 4-1 lead through five innings. NWU's first run was scored on an RBI single from Evan Kling. In the sixth inning, Noah Unger lined a double to left field to score two runs and make it a 4-3 ball game.
NWU exploded for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. After working the bases loaded in the inning,
Kaleb Knox lined a two-run single to give the Prairie Wolves the lead. Unger then plated another run with an RBI single. A wild pitch tacked on a run before
Jason English knocked an RBI single through the middle of the infield.Â
The Prairie Wolves added another run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kaleb Knox lined a hard single down the left field line to score Matthew Brown. NWU then held Luther scoreless in the top of the ninth inning to clinch the series.
Game Two Recap
Luther was able to quiet the NWU bats in game two. The Norse held the Prairie Wolves scoreless until their last out of the game. Nebraska Wesleyan avoided being shut out for the first time this season when Evan Kling hit a solo home run over the right field fence.Â
