Unger, Prairie Wolves Shutout Norse In Series Opener

LINCOLN (April 15, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team shutout Luther College, 6-0, in the opening game of a three-game series at NWU Field. NWU's Noah Unger tossed a complete game and Kaleb Knox recorded a triple and a double in the victory.

After a scoreless first inning, Owen Machal plated the game's first run and gave the Prairie Wolves an early lead. Machal roped a double to the left-center field gap to drive in Jason English. But the Norse escaped a bases-loaded jam to get out of the inning.

NWU worked the bases loaded again in the bottom of the third inning. A Luther error allowed Paul Georget to reach base and plate Kaleb Knox. During the next at-bat, a wild pitch scored John Haimowitz from third base to widen the Nebraska Wesleyan advantage to 3-0.

The Prairie Wolves' offense continued to stay aggressive in the bottom of the fourth inning. Derek Kolbush drew a leadoff walk before Knox cranked a triple, his second extra-base hit of the game. The next batter, Haimowitz, lined a single down the left-field line to score Knox and push the lead to five runs.

Nebraska Wesleyan added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single from Haimowitz for the game's final run.

On the mound, Unger's complete-game shutout was the first nine-inning complete game by a Prairie Wolf since the 2018 season. In the win, Unger only gave up four hits and struck out seven batters, his second-highest strikeout count this season.
