Beavers Best Prairie Wolves


LINCOLN, Neb. (April 12, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team fell to Buena Vista, 12-6, in a midweek game at NWU Field. 

An offensive display highlighted the first inning as the two teams combined for five runs in the inning. BVU plated three runs but NWU countered with a pair of runs. Derek Kolbush put the first Prairie Wolf run on the board with a home run. It is the third consecutive game that Kolbush has hit a home run. Back-to-back doubles from Riley Ward and John Haimowitz put another run on the board and made it a 3-2 game. 

But after the first inning, Buena Vista held Nebraska Wesleyan in check. BVU scored nine runs from the second through the sixth inning as NWU was scoreless. 

The Prairie Wolves did chip away at the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Evan Kling's double scored Jason English to break the drought. In the eighth inning, Kling knocked another RBI double before he was plated with a single from Kolbush. NWU's final run came in the ninth inning with Kling's third double of the game, which drove in Jason English. 

Kling went 5-for-5 at the plate with three doubles and three RBIs. Additionally, Ward went 4-for-5 at the plate with a triple and a double. English accounted for two of NWU's six runs in the game.
