Prairie Wolves Win Shootout With Stars


AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 8, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team won a wild shootout, 17-12, over Dominican University in Auburndale, Florida. NWU has won three straight games on their Spring Break roadtrip in Florida.

After giving up three runs to start the opening inning, the Prairie Wolves answered with three runs in third then added two more runs in the fifth. NWU then extended its lead to 8-3 after a three-run fifth inning. 

After DU countered with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan cut back into the lead with a run in the sixth. Dominican answered with another run before NWU's offense went off. In the final two innings of the game, the Prairie Wolves scored eight runs including six in the top of the ninth. 

Nebraska Wesleyan had five players all record three hits in the victory. Derek Kolbush and Evan Kling both smacked home runs in the slugfest. Alex Angele drove in a career-high six RBIs and was one of five Prairie Wolves with at least two RBIs. Angele, Kaleb Knox, and Mason Bennett each hit a double in the shootout as well.

On the pitching mound, Noah Unger recorded nine strikeouts in four innings of work, the most by an NWU pitcher this season. Unger's performance helped Nebraska Wesleyan finish the game with 16 strikeouts as a team.

Nebraska Wesleyan is off until Thursday, March 10 when it plays Cornell College at 9 a.m. in Auburndale, Florida at Lake Myrtle Park.
