NWU Falls To Aurora, Thumps St. Joseph’s College of Maine

LEESBURG, Fla. (March 7, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team splits its doubleheader on day two of its Florida Spring Break trip. NWU fell to Aurora University, 5-1, then bounced back to run-rule Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 9-1.

Game One Recap
Aurora University jumped out of the gate with three runs in the first inning and never looked back. NWU chipped away in the second inning with a run from Bre Schneidewind. Schneidewind reached on an error and two wild pitches put Schneidewind on third base before she stole home to make it a 3-1 game. But the Spartans escaped the inning and held the Prairie Wolves scoreless the rest of the way.

Game Two Recap
After being held in check during game one, Nebraska Wesleyan broke loose in game two. NWU tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning when Addie Duranski scored on a Sydney Nickerson groundout.

The momentum from the second inning carried into the third inning as the Prairie Wolves scored seven runs. Emma Alfieri started the scoring blitz with an RBI double. Paige Davison added another run on a sac fly from Val Gerlach before Taylor Styskal plated Alfieri. Duranski drove in Styskal then scored later on a wild pitch. NWU added two more runs in the inning with a deep single to right-center from Hanna Roth

In the sixth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan put up another run to apply the run rule. Styskal hit a single to score Alfieri to end the game at 9-1.

Kenna Ford tossed a complete game in the circle for the Prairie Wolves. Ford allowed just one earned run on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Alfieri paced the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Styskal and Roth both recorded two RBIs in the victory.
