Prairie Wolves Walk Off Concordia University Chicago

DAVENPORT, Fla. (March 7, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team walked off Concordia University Chicago, 9-8, for its second straight win on their Florida Spring Break road trip.

The Prairie Wolves generated enough offense in the bottom of the ninth inning for their fifth win in the last six games. Paul Georget drew a leadoff walk then Kaleb Knox was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. A double down the left-field line off the bat off of Derek Kolbush made it a one-run game. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, the Cougars hit back-to-back batters, Jason English and Noah Unger, to allow NWU to tie the game then win the ballgame.

Nebraska Wesleyan had to dig out of an early hole after giving up a run in the first two innings. NWU got on the board when Riley Ward doubled to right-center to score Georget. But CUC got a run back in the top of the fifth inning.

A three-run fifth inning pushed the Prairie Wolves ahead for the first time in the game. An error scored Unger then Mason Bennett tied it on a wild pitch and a passed ball scored Knox for the 4-3 advantage.

The back-and-forth scoring continued as the Cougars took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning then pushed it to 7-4 an inning later. Nebraska Wesleyan cut the deficit to one run when John Haimowitz knocked a double to score Kolbush. Bennett then drove in Haimowitz with a single.

Concordia Chicago homered in the ninth before NWU answered with the game-winning rally.

Both Kolbush and Bennett finished with multiple hits in the game. Six different Prairie Wolves registered RBIs in the win as well. NWU's pitchers combined for seven strikeouts, led by Noah Wing with four strikeouts in two innings of work out of the bullpen.
