Offense Shines To Begin Baseball's Spring Break Trip


DAVENPORT, Fla. (March 6, 2022) – The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team defeated New Jersey City University, 12-5, to open its spring break trip in Davenport, Florida. It is the first of six games the Prairie Wolves will play in Florida.

After giving up a run in the bottom of the first inning, NWU answered with a run in the top of the second inning. The Prairie Wolves then widened the advantage with a pair of runs in the third inning then four more runs in the fourth inning for a 7-1 lead. 

Nebraska Wesleyan kept pouring on the offense in the fifth inning. NWU scored three of those runs on a double from Kaleb Knox then the other two runs on a home run from Derek Kolbush. The Gothic Knights chipped away with three runs in the fifth inning and a final run in the ninth inning. But the Prairie Wolves early offense was too much for them too overcome.

Knox and Kolbush paced the offense in the victory. The duo combined for nine RBIs on four hits with three runs scored. Additionally, Jason English recorded two RBIs for Nebraska Wesleyan. Riley Ward and Paul Georget accounted for three runs apiece as Noah Unger and Knox each scored twice. Knox and Georget both went 3-for-4 at the plate.

NWU's pitching staff also shined in the win. Three Prairie Wolves took the mound and combined for 10 strikeouts. Dylan Cox led the way with seven strikeouts over five innings of work.
