Baseball Walks Off UNW To Split Doubleheader


LINCOLN, Neb. (March 19, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team splits its is home opening doubleheader at NWU Field in Lincoln. The Prairie Wolves used a walk-off single to win game one, 1-0, then fell in game two, 12-9.

Game One Recap
Nebraska Wesleyan finally broke through in the bottom of the ninth inning in a pitcher's duel. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Paul Georget's liner found a gap through the left side of the infield and scored Noah Unger to win the game. 

NWU's Dylan Cox had one of his best starts of the season. Cox tossed 6 â…” innings with eight strikeouts and did not give up a run. Max Brammier finished the game out to earn the win, going 2 â…“ innings with three strikeouts.

Game Two Recap
The offense didn't wait to show up in the game two. After Northwestern plated a run in the top of the first inning, the Prairie Wolves tied it in the bottom half of the inning. Derek Kolbush capitalized on an error to score NWU's first run. 

After the Eagles added a run in the top of the third, Nebraska Wesleyan tied it again. John Haimowitz hit a double to the deep right center gap to drive in Kaleb Knox and make it a 2-2 game. UNW added three runs in the fourth but Alex Angele's double in the bottom half of the inning plated Noah Unger to cut into the deficit. But Angele would be stranded at third when the Eagles escaped the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Haimowitz scored on a deep sacrifice fly from Jason English for the fourth NWU run of the game. 

The Prairie Wolves rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs. Kaleb Knox hit a single through the middle of the infield to score Paul Georget. NWU then loaded the bases after Haimotwitz was hit by a pitch. Evan Kling launched a grand slam to right center field to make it a 12-9 ballgame. Jason English drew a walk to get on base but the rally would in end the next at-bat.
