Prairie Wolves Walk Off 12th-Ranked Lions

LEESBURG Fla. (March 11, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team knocked off 12th-ranked the College of New Jersey, 8-7, to end its Spring Break trip in Florida. It is the highest-ranked opponent NWU has defeated since March 1, 2020, when it beat No. 11, St. Thomas, 5-3.

The Prairie Wolves wouldn't be rattled after giving up three runs in the first two innings. Nebraska Wesleyan countered with a huge inning in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs all with two outs. Hanna Roth started the rally with a bases-clearing double to right-centerfield that scored three runs. Three consecutive singles that scored two runs allowed NWU to take a 5-3 lead.

Facing a two-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning, Emma Alfieri made it a one-run game with a solo home run to left field. The next inning, two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases before Roth drew another walk to tie the game. In the next at-bat, Paige Davison drove in Taylor Styskal for the winning run with a single to left field.

Alfieri led the Prairie Wolves, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and driving in two runs. Roth tallied a game-high four RBIs as Davison went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
