Wrestlers Grapple In The Don Parker Open


EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. (February 5, 2022) – The Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling team competed in the Don Parker Open in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Prairie Wolves tallied seven victories in the event.

Zeth Gerkensmeyer highlighted NWU's performance at the tournament. Gerkensmeyer cruised in his opening match in the Gold 165 bracket with a 16-9 decision against an opponent from Wisconsin-Eau Claire. In the next round, Gerkensmeyer earned a hard-fought victory, 5-4, over an opponent from Wheaton College. 

In the gold 125 bracket, Keith Germain won a match in the first consolation round. Germain picked up a narrow, 6-4, decision over his opponent from Wheaton College. Keegan Casey earned a win in the Gold 149 bracket. After receiving a bye to open the tournament, Casey pinned his opponent from Luther College at the 6:58 mark in his first match. Jarred Gallub also picked a victory in the Gold 149 bracket. Gallub won his first match of the day with an, 11-7, decision over an opponent from St. Cloud State. 

Daniel Alonso notched a win by pin in the Gold 174 bracket. Alonso pinned his opponent from Bryant & Stratton in 3:37 in the first round. Brody Dickerson drew Alonso in the next round, Dickerson won the match with a pin in 4:44.
