Softball Splits Final Day Of Mankato Dome Tournament

MANKATO, Minn. (February 20, 2022) – The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team splits its final two games of the Mankato Dome Tournament in Mankato, Minnesota. NWU defeated St. Catherine University, 5-3, in game one then narrowly fell to Northland College, 2-1, in game two. The 3-1 record for the opening weekend is the best start by the Prairie Wolves since the 2019 season.

Game One Recap
After giving up a run in the second inning, Nebraska Wesleyan settled in with a three run third inning. Paige Davison ignited the rally with a bases clearing triple to score Hanna Roth and Addison Duranski. Davison scored the next at-bat off of a single from Emma Alfieri.

St. Catherine's tied the game in the fifth inning but NWU stormed back in the sixth inning. An error by the Wildcats in the sixth inning scored both Bre Schneidewind and Emily Swoboda. The two runs provided enough room for the Prairie Wolves third consecutive win.

Kailey Meyer tossed another gem for Nebraska Wesleyan. Meyer threw a complete game with just one earned run with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Game Two Recap
A defensive tussle highlighted game two after the teams combined for three runs in the first inning. Hanna Roth hit her second home run of the season with a leadoff homer to open the game. However, it would be the last time NWU would score in the game.

Jackie Morrissey, Rylee Pangborn, and Kailey Meyer combined to allow just two earned runs with no walks.
