Men’s Basketball Comeback Falls Just Short

DUBUQUE, Iowa (February 12, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball fell on the road, 80-79, to Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Prairie Wolves nearly completed their fourth comeback win of the season when trailing by four or more points with less than a minute to go in regulation. NWU held the Duhawks scoreless over the final 2:39 and closed the game on an 8-0 run but couldn't connect on a free-throw with just seconds remaining to force overtime.

Peter Lash sparked the late rally with a steal then kicked it ahead to Elijah Thatch for the lay-in to cut LC's lead down to 80-73 with 1:53 left. Under a minute left, Landon Torneten nailed a jumper to make it a five-point game and a pair of Terrence Gilder free-throws with 11 seconds got the lead down to one possession. Free-throws from Carter Glenn and Jack Groeteke put NWU within striking distance before the clock expired.

Nebraska Wesleyan held a slim 43-40 lead at halftime. In the first half, NWU went 6-for-8 on three-pointers and shot 56.5 percent from the field. The team also went a perfect 11-for-11 at the free-throw line. For the second half, the Prairie Wolves weren't able to stay as hot, shooting 50 percent from the arc and 40 percent from the field. Loras was able to take advantage of the slight cool down, shooting over 57 percent from the field.

Carter Glenn had one of the best games for NWU this season and in his young career. The first-year student-athlete scored 31 points as he went 11-for-16 from the field, 2-for-2 on three-pointers, and 7-for-9 at the free-throw line. The 31 points are a career-high for Glenn and the most in a game by a Prairie Wolf since Connor Riekenberg netted 32 points against Loras on February 6, 2021. Peter Lash added 14 points and Elijah Thatch grabbed 10 rebounds. Lash scored in double digits for the seventh consecutive game and Thatch has grabbed double-figure rebounds in back-to-back games.
