Second Half Launches Men’s Basketball To Road Win

INDIANOLA, Iowa (February 16, 2022) – The Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team picked up a road win at Simpson College, 75-66, in Indianola, Iowa.

NWU overcame a slow first half with an explosion of offense in the second half. The Prairie Wolves shot 42 percent from the field and from the three-point arc to score 47 points in the second frame. The big second half helped erase a two-point halftime deficit which saw the two teams combine for 58 points.

Tyler Converse helped spark the rally with 11 points, all in the second half, including eight straight points in the first two minutes of the half. Converse's jolt of momentum gave Nebraska Wesleyan a 36-30 lead and set them up to run away. The Prairie Wolves built their second-half lead to as much as 16 points with a Carter Glenn layup with five minutes left in the game and never let Simpson get closer than seven points down the stretch.

Nebraska Wesleyan hit 10 three-pointers for the fourth time in the last five games and had a balanced attack on offense. Five Prairie Wolves finished with double-digit scoring numbers, led by Glenn's 14 points and four others at 11 points each. Defensively as a team, NWU forced 20 turnovers, their second-highest total this season.

Elijah Thatch had a monster game on the glass and finished with a double-double. Thatch grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, his third straight game with 10 or more rebounds, and 11 points. The 16 rebounds are tied for the most by a Prairie Wolf this season.

With the win, NWU head coach Dale Wellman secured his eighth consecutive season with a .500 winning percentage or better. Wellman has never had a losing record at Nebraska Wesleyan.
