NWU Cruises Past Tigers

COLORADO SPRINGS (January 4, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team defeated Colorado College, 83-67, in its final non-conference game of the 2021-2022 season. With the win, NWU has won three of its last four games.

The Prairie Wolves had to shake off a slow start to open the game. NWU scored just nine points in the first 10 minutes and found itself down by eight points. But a Jack Groeteke layup ignited a 25-5 run over the final nine minutes to put Nebraska Wesleyan up, 34-22, heading into halftime.

After the break, Connor Riekenberg scored five of the team's seven points to put the Prairie Wolves up by 17. With just over five minutes left, NWU extended its lead to a 25 point advantage with a basket from Peter Lash. The lead would be Nebraska Wesleyan's largest lead of the evening.

Defensively, NWU frustrated CC and held them to a shooting percentage of 35.4 percent, the lowest by an opponent this season. The Tigers were just 20.8 percent from the three-point arc, the lowest by an opponent since December 1. Nebraska Wesleyan also gave up less than 70 points for the fifth time this season.

Carter Glenn paced the Prairie Wolves with 19 points, including a season-high eight points at the free-throw line. Peter Lash added 14 points, with a team-high eight rebounds, and Connor Riekenberg chipped in 10 points. Tyler Unger was credited with a career-high and season-best eight assists.
