Quick Start Fuels Prairie Wolves Past Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (January 29, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team earned a, 64-61, road victory against the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa.

A fast start provided the fuel NWU needed for a key conference road win that it never trailed in. The Prairie Wolves scored the game's first six points and raced out to a 13-2 lead. In the opening quarter, Nebraska Wesleyan shot 57.1 percent from the field as its defense limited the Spartans to shoot just 15.4 percent from the field and forced seven turnovers.

The momentum allowed the Prairie Wolves to take a 28-21 lead into halftime and extend their lead to 14 points early in the fourth quarter. Delaney Roberts connected on a three-pointer from Kiara Libal with 9:23 left in the game for the biggest lead of the game. Dubuque made a comeback to get it down to three points with a second left but NWU's 11 made free-throws in the quarter, including seven from Roberts, was too much for UD to overcome.

As a team, NWU's defense frustrated Dubuque the entire game as it forced a season-high 23 turnovers. The Prairie Wolves also owned the glass with a 39-24 rebounding margin in the victory. On offense, NWU shot 40.7 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the three-point, both percentages rank top-five for the season.

Nebraska Wesleyan was led by a balanced scoring attack from Delaney Roberts, Anna Vandenack, and Avery Halliday. Roberts scored 14 points and recorded a career-high eight assists. Vandenack nearly had a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Halliday netted a season-high 10 points. Rhett Partridge also grabbed nine rebounds for NWU.
