Late Free-Throw Secures Women’s Basketball Win

LINCOLN, Neb. (January 22, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team defeated Luther College, 57-56, at Snyder Arena in Lincoln. With the victory, the Prairie Wolves snap a 13-game losing skid.

A Delaney Roberts free-throw with 6.7 seconds left pushed NWU to their first conference victory of the season. The free-throw ended Luther's 5-0 scoring threat as NWU battled in the fourth quarter to get the victory.

Despite being outscored 19-13 in the third quarter, a pivotal 12-0 run by NWU from 4:30 mark in the third until 6:49 in the fourth quarter made the difference. During the key run, Roberts netted six of the 12 points and Luther went 0-for-11 from the field. In the final quarter, Nebraska Wesleyan outscored the Norse 15-11

The Prairie Wolves raced out of the gates early and opened the game with a 7-0 run. NWU carried the momentum throughout the quarter for a 16-10 lead after the first quarter and a 29-26 halftime lead.

As a team, NWU hit seven three-pointers, which is the most in a game this season. Defensively, the Prairie Wolves had five blocked shots, a team-high this season. Nebraska Wesleyan shot 50 percent from the three-point arc as its defense limited the Norse to shoot just 30.8 percent from three in the opening half.

Delaney Roberts led Nebraska Wesleyan with 16 points. Roberts was 4-for-5 from the three-point arc and 4-for-6 at the free-throw line. Anna Vandenack had a team-high seven rebounds. Rhett Partridge was credited with four blocks, the most by a Prairie Wolf this season.
