Prairie Wolves Light Up Eureka, Score Most Points Since 1919

LINCOLN, Neb. (Sept. 4, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan football dominated Eureka College, 69-20, for a home-opening win at Abel Stadium. The 69 points are the third most by NWU in program history and most since 1919.

The Prairie Wolves dominated the Red Devils on both sides of the ball. The offense put up 551 yards including 395 in the air with seven passing touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, NWU recorded four takeaways, all four were interceptions.

Offensively, Carter Terry tied a program record with seven touchdowns. For the afternoon, Terry was 17-for-24 for 393 yards. It is the most yards by a Nebraska Wesleyan quarterback since September 9, 2017. Terry put on a show in the first half, tossing six scores for 334 yards. Terry also dialed up with the long ball with completed passes of 61 yards and 40 yards respectively.

Terry's big target was David O'Connell, the duo connected three times for 128 yards and a pair of scores. Kevin Tims eclipsed the 100-yard receiving yard mark with 105 yards and also added two scores. Alex Mathis nearly joined O'Connell and Tims with 100 yards. Mathis had five grabs for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Tims and Mathis combined for 10 receptions in the game.

Not only did the Prairie Wolves tear up Eureka College in the air, but they also pounded out 156 yards on the ground. Josh Romain led the ground game with 90 yards on 12 carries and a score. Nebraska Wesleyan's 551 yards of total offense is the most since the 2017 season.

Defensively, NWU forced the Red Devils to throw four interceptions including a 51-yard pick-six by Karrell Simpson in the second half. Simpson's returned interception for a score was the first by a Prairie Wolf defender since the 2016 season. Simpson also picked off a pass in the first half. Quinn Keller and Aashton Kirkland tallied interceptions in the victory as well.
