Late Field Goal Caps Wild Fourth Quarter

LINCOLN, Neb. (Sept. 25, 2021) - A field goal with 31 seconds left in the game allowed Loras to defeat Nebraska Wesleyan in Abel Stadium. The late score capped a combined 31 points and three turnovers between the two teams in the final quarter.

The Prairie Wolves started the fury of points in the fourth quarter with a 49-yard scoring strike from Carter Terry to Kevin Tims. The score gave NWU a 23-14 lead just under 11 minutes into the fourth quarter. The drive started after Kodjo Atikpohou forced a fumble that was recovered by Andrew Ellerbee.

After Loras answered back just over a minute later, Nebraska Wesleyan countered again with an explosive scoring play. Terry tossed another touchdown strike, this one was 44 yards to David O'Connell to finish an eight play, 75 yard drive in less than three minutes. It also gave the Prairie Wolves a 30-21 advantage with 9:50 left.

NWU looked like it would put the game away on the following drive after Jacob Leu recorded a sack on the first play then Dakota Prorok snagged an interception on the next play. But the Duhawks forced a turnover on the ensuing drive then made it a one possesion game with a score at the 4:38 mark.

Loras forced a punt the next time Nebraska Wesleyan had the ball. However, the Prairie Wolf defense answered back, making the Duhawks turnover it over on downs as Prorok stopped the receiver a yard short of the first down. But a turnover on downs on the next possession gave LC the ball back that set-up the game-winning drive.

Kevin Tims hauled in nine receptions for 204 yards, it is the first time a Nebraska Wesleyan receiver has eclipsed 200 receiving yards since October 4, 2014. Carter Terry threw for 322 yards on 18 completions, it is the second time this season Terry has thrown for more than 300 yards.

Tims and Terry connected for three touchdowns, the first one went for 70 yards for the game's first score. The second score was for 47 yards with 19 seconds left in the third quarter then the final score was from 49 yards out in the fourth quarter.

Karrell Simpson and Zach Busmente combined for 24 tackles to lead the Prairie Wolf defense. Simpson led the team with 13 stops as Busmente added 11 stops. Jacob Leu recorded 1.5 sacks for 12 yards and three tackles-for-a-loss for 18 yards. The NWU defense forced Loras to turnover it over on downs four times, including a goal line stand in the third quarter to stop a 14 play, 79-yard drive.
