Fourth Quarter Run Propels NWU Past Luther

DECORAH, Iowa (October 2, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan scored two touchdowns in the final seven minutes of the game to beat Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The win moves NWU to 3-2 on the season.

A key third down conversion with just 2:21 remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Prairie Wolves all it would need for its second road win of the season. Facing a third and 13, Carter Terry connected with David O'Connell for a 44-yard touchdown pass. The score gave Nebraska Wesleyan a 28-21 lead with 2:06 left and the defense held off the Norse to finish the game.

The Prairie Wolves tied the game a few drives prior on Terry's second touchdown pass of the game. Terry hit Matthew Zarybnicky from nine yards out to knot the game at 21. Josh Romain set the score up two plays earlier with a 46-yard run that followed a 16-yard completion from Terry to Trace Leners.

On Luther's first drive of the second half, Nebraska Wesleyan's defensive forced a crucial turnover. Max Brinker scooped up a Norse fumble and returned it 61 yards for a touchdown. The defensive score was the third this season by NWU and the first scoop and score since the 2016 season.

Nebraska Wesleyan got on the board first in the game. Terry found Zarybnicky for their first touchdown connection just under five minutes into the game. The touchdown strike was from 20 yards out.

In the win, Kevin Tims surpassed 1,000 career reception yards. Tims had nine receptions for 127 yards. Terry completed 19 passes for 273 yards and three scores. Josh Romain carried the ball 25 times for 122 yards.

Defensively, Andrew Ellerbee recorded 11 tackles including five solo tackles and one and half tackles-for-a-loss. Along with Brinker's defensive touchdown, Brinker had eight tackles as Spencer Brooks added seven stops.
