LINCOLN, Neb. (May 1, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (12-19, 10-13 A-R-C) fell, 5-1, to Central College (15-10, 13-8 A-R-C) on Sunday afternoon at University Place in Lincoln.
NWU and Central combined for 17 hits in the series finale but it was two hits with two outs in the fourth inning that made the difference. The Dutch hit an RBI single that plated one run then had an RBI double, which scored two additional runs.
The Prairie Wolves tried to rally a comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning as Emma Alfieri led off the frame with a single. A few pitches later, Alfieri moved into scoring position on a wild pitch before Alycin Braun drove in Alfieri on an RBI single. The run cut the lead down to three runs but Nebraska Wesleyan could not push anymore runs through.
Central added another run in the top of the seventh inning then forced the Prairie Wolves to go three up and three down to end the game.
NWU's first three batters in the line-up each recorded a hit with the seven and eight positions also adding a hit apiece. The Prairie Wolves had two doubles compared to the Dutch's one double. But Central left seven on base as Nebraska Wesleyan stranded nine on base. In the circle, Kailey Meyer threw her 13th complete game for NWU this season.
