Softball Bests Beavers In Regular-Season Finale

STORM LAKE, Iowa (May 7, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (13-19, 11-13 A-R-C) defeated Buena Vista (15-20, 7-16 A-R-C), 3-2, in the regular-series finale. With the win, the Prairie Wolves won the series, 2-1, against the Beavers and also clinched the sixth-seed in the A-R-C conference tournament.

NWU wasted little time getting its offense rolling as it scored two runs in the first inning. Hanna Roth started the game with a leadoff single then moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Emma Alfieri. A couple of batters later, Valerie Gerlach plated Roth and Taylor Styskal with a double to give Nebraska Wesleyan the early lead. Styskal drew a walk to get on base.

BVU answered back with two runs in the next half-inning but NWU countered with a run in the top of the second inning. Sydney Nickerson drew a one-out walk to get on base before Rachel Mundt drove Nickerson in. Mundt recorded a single to move Nickerson over but a throwing error on the Beavers allowed Mundt to advance to second and Nickerson to score the go-ahead run.

The Prairie Wolves wouldn't need another run the rest of the way as they held Buena Vista scoreless over the next six and a half innings. Kailey Meyer tossed another complete game for Nebraska Wesleyan, the 14th time Meyer went the distance this season.
