Offense Goes Off In Game One, Softball Draws Split Against Central


LINCOLN, Neb. (May 1, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (12-18, 10-12 A-R-C) split its doubleheader with Central College (14-10, 12-8 A-R-C) on Saturday afternoon. NWU's offense went off for a, 10-2, run-rule win in game one before falling in game two, 11-6, at University Park Place.

Game One Recap
After allowing a run in the first and being held scoreless over the first three innings, the Prairie Wolves exploded for 10 runs in the last three innings. The scoring started in the fourth inning with a Kailey Meyer RBI single to score Taylor Styskal. Rachel Mundt then doubled to plate Meyer before Ashlee Mayorga drove in Mundt on a single. Hanna Roth and Emma Alfieri hit back-to-back RBI doubles to add three more runs in the inning.

The next inning, Valerie Gerlach launched a two-run home run to make it an 8-1 lead. The Dutch scored one run in the sixth inning before Alycin Braun hit a two-run single to enforce the run-rule. 

In the circle, Kailey Meter threw a complete game with just two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Game Two Recap
Early in game two, the bats didn't cool off for NWU as it scored five runs in the first inning. Taylor Styskal hit a two-run double to plate the game's first runs. Then RBI singles from Valerie Gerlach and Sydney Nickerson pushed the lead to 4-0 before a bases-loaded walk by Bailey Green scored Gerlach. 

Alycin Braun tallied another run for Nebraska Wesleyan with an RBI single in the second inning for the sixth run in just two innings of play. But Central College answered with 11 runs over the next five innings to take game two.

What's Next
Nebraska Wesleyan and Central College play the series finale on Sunday, May 2 at University Place. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
