Big Inning Overshadows Defensive Battle

WAVERLY, Iowa. (April 3, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (6-11, 4-5 A-R-C) fell in the series finale to No. 16 Wartburg (16-3, 7-2 A-R-C), 8-0, on Saturday afternoon.

A scoreless game through five and half innings was overshadowed by Wartburg's eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The two teams combined for 12 baserunners, with only one runner advancing to third base until the bottom of the sixth inning.

NWU's Kailey Meyer recorded seven strikeouts in her first five innings of work. The Prairie Wolves forced the Knights to go three up and three down in both the third and fourth innings, with three of those outs by strikeout.

The Knights started their rally in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff walk then used a fielder's choice to score their first run before two home runs were hit later in the inning. Emma Alfieri had a hit and drew a walk with Hanna Roth, Taylor Styskal, and Kailey Meyer each drawing a walk for Nebrasks Wesleyan.
