DECORAH, Iowa. (April 16, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball (7-17, 5-13 A-R-C) split its doubleheader on Friday afternoon with Luther College (16-6, 12-2 A-R-C) in Decorah, Iowa. NWU won game one, 6-3, before falling in game two, 8-3.Â
Game One Recap
The Norse took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. NWU got on the board an inning later when Derek Kolbush delivered a solo home run to right field. Luther added another run in the bottom of the third inning but it would be the final run the Prairie Wolves would allow.
Nebraska Wesleyan rallied for four runs in the fourth inning when Riley Ward knocked an RBI single to score Alex Angele. Kolbush tallied two more RBIs when his single drove in Paul Georget and Mason Bennett. Ward scored later in the inning on a balk to cap the rally with a 5-3 NWU lead. In the sixth inning, John Haimowitz recorded a sacrifice fly to plate Bennett for an insurance run.
Game Two Recap
Derek Kolbush carried his hot streak into game two and started Nebraska Wesleyan with a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double to left center. After Luther took a 6-1 lead into the eighth inning, NWU chipped away at the deficit when John Haimowitz hit a double to score Kolbush and Kaleb Knox. However, the Prairie Wolves could not find enough momentum to rally back for the win.

Nebraska Wesleyan closes out its series with Luther College tomorrow afternoon. The two teams play another doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
