Softball Finishes Off No. 23 Dubuque To Win Series

INDIANOLA, Iowa. (April 12, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (8-12, 6-6 A-R-C) beat No. 23 Dubuque (13-6, 4-5 A-R-C), 5-3, on Monday afternoon to win the three-game series.

A pair of two-run innings propelled NWU past UD. The Prairie Wolves used an Ashlee Mayorga double to left center to score Hanna Roth and Valerie Gerlach in the third inning. An inning later, Roth knocked her second home run of the season to make it a 4-0 lead.

The momentum carried into the next inning for Nebraska Wesleyan as it added an additional run in the fifth inning. NWU extended the lead, to 5-0, when Alycin Braun hit a single to right field and drove in Annie Cooper

Dubuque added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one more in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to two runs. But Kailey Meyer slammed the door on the Spartans and sealed the win with back-to-back strikeouts to close out the game.

Meyer tossed a complete game for NWU with seven strikeouts and just one earned run allowed. Roth and Mayorga each recorded two RBIs with Meyer and Braun collecting three hits apiece for the Prairie Wolves.
