Second Half Rally Gets Luther Past Men’s Soccer


LINCOLN, Neb. (April 10, 2021) -The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team (2-3, 2-3 A-R-C) was defeated by Luther (3-0-1, 3-0-1 A-R-C), 4-1 at Abel Stadium. 

The Prairie Wolves put the Norse down 1-0 in the first half with a goal by Alex Aguilar, his first of the season and the first score allowed by Luther in two games. Aguilar knocked in the goal on a pass from Alex Kohler. It was the first time NWU has scored against the Norse and led in a game with them since 2016. 

In the second half, Luther tied the match with a goal in the 52nd minute then went ahead with a goal less than a minute later. Luther added insurance goals in the 56th minute and 62nd minute.

The Prairie Wolves totaled six shots in the match with Aguilar and Luke Monson each taking two shots. Jakob Hulquest and Jacob Caffey each adding one shot apiece. Zachary Selph was credited with five saves in goal for NWU.

Nebraska Wesleyan travels to Pella, Iowa on Tuesday, April 13 for a 1 p.m. road match at Central College.
