Monson Nets Game Winner in Double Overtime For Men’s Soccer

LINCOLN, Neb. (March 30, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer team (1-1, 1-1 A-R-C) defeated Coe (0-2 ,0-2 A-R-C) in double overtime at Able Stadium. Luke Monson connected on a header in the 107th minute to secure the victory for the Prairie Wolves.

Monson's header guided NWU to its first victory of the 2021 spring season. The goal came off a set piece on a corner kick from Alex Kohler. Shortly before the play, the Prairie Wolves nearly ended the match from Logan Lawrence's free kick but a Kohawk save at the net continued the game.

Coe got on the board first in the game with a goal just 15 seconds before halftime. NWU evened the match in the 76th minute with a goal from Thomas Distefano. Distefano sank the shot five yards from the net as he found the right corner. After the two teams were unable to generate another goal in regulation, they battled to a draw in the first overtime period.

Nebraska Wesleyan outshot Coe in the match 11-8 with a 5-3 edge in the second half. Zachary Selph tallied three saves in the net for NWU as the defensive line in front of him allowed only him to face four shots on goal.
