Softball Drops Series Finale To Coe


LINCOLN, Neb. ( March 28, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (6-8, 4-2 A-R-C) dropped its series finale with Coe College (8-5, 3-2 A-R-C), 8-5 on Sunday afternoon. 

The rubber match of the series tilted towards NWU's favor early in the first inning after Valerie Gerlach launched her fourth home run of the season. Gerlach's two-run homer to left center field gave the Prairie Wolves a 2-0 lead. Coe answered back as they tied the game in the third inning with a two-run double.

In the fifth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan broke a tie game when an Alycin Braun single scored Hanna Roth and Annie Cooper. The lead was extended by another run during the next at-bat. A Kohawks' error allowed Braun to score and Taylor Styskal to reach base. 

Coe responded with six runs in the top of the sixth inning then held NWU hitless the next two innings. Kailey Meyer registered a game-high four strikeouts for the Prairie Wolves. Gerlach and Braun combined for four of NWU's five RBIs in the game.
