LINCOLN, Neb. ( March 27, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (6-7, 4-1 A-R-C) split a doubleheader with Coe College (7-5, 2-2 A-R-C). The Prairie Wolves won game one, 6-5, on a two-out, two-run walk-off then dropped game two, 6-1. The loss snapped NWU's five-game winning streak and is their first loss in conference play this season.
Game One Recap
Down to its final at-bat and trailing by a run, Alycin Braun's infield pop-up was mishandled by the Kohawks. The two-out error scored Emma Alfieri to tie the game and Annie Cooper to win the game. Alfieri put NWU on the board first with a two-run RBI double in the third inning. Meyer then drove in Alfieri with a single. After a five-run fifth inning by Coe, Rachel Mundt made it a one-run game with an RBI single to bring in Abby Armentrout. Armentrout's run made it a 5-4 game and positioned the Prairie Wolves for the walk-off win three innings later.
Game Two Recap
The momentum in game one carried over into game two as Nebraska Wesleyan again scored first. Emma Alfieri hit a single to score Hannah Lytle for a 1-0 lead in the third inning. However, the Kohawks would stop the momentum by scoring four runs in the five and adding two more in the seventh.Â
