DUBUQUE, Iowa (March 27, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's and women's soccer teams made their return to competition for the first time since October 29, 2019, due to the COVID-19 Global Health Pandemic. The NWU women's team (0-1, 0-1 A-R-C) fell to Loras (1-0, 1-0 A-R-C), 2-0 and the NWU men's team (0-1, 0-1 A-R-C) dropped its match to the Duhawks (1-0, 1-0 A-R-C) by a score of 4-1.
Women's Recap
Loras scored its two goals in the first half before Nebraska Wesleyan shut them out in the second half. In the opening half, NWU tallied three shots and two corner kicks. Defensively, the Duhawks held the Prairie Wolves to just one shot in the second half. Leslie Borges and Liz Wolf combined for 11 saves in the net. Suzie McDonald led the offensive attack with two shots on goal.
Men's Recap
Nebraska Wesleyan knocked in its first goal of the season in the 84th minute. Thomas Distefano drilled the goal to get the Prairie Wolves on the board. The goal was one of four NWU shots in the half. James VanBemmeien and Zachary Selph combined for nine saves on the afternoon. Offensively, Distefano led Nebraska Wesleyan with two shots.
What's Next
The Prairie Wolves have their home opener on Tuesday, March 30 against Coe College. The women's game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with the men's game set for 7:30 p.m.
