Softball Completes Sweep Of Loras


DUBUQUE, Iowa ( March 21, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team (5-6, 3-0 A-R-C) defeated Loras (0-7, 0-3 A-R-C), 11-4, to sweep a three-game series in the opening weekend of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) schedule. NWU has now won four games in a row.

The Prairie Wolves used another high-powered offensive attack to drop the Duhawks. NWU took a 3-0 lead in the third inning with a Emma Alfieri two-run home run and a solo home run from Valerie Gerlach. 

An inning later, Nebraska Wesleyan added six more runs, started off by a run scored on a bases-loaded walk. The following at-bat, an error allowed Gerlach to reach base and score three runs. Another error, in the next at-bat, by Loras allowed Abby Armentrout to reach second base and score Mollie Grant. NWU capped off the inning with an RBI single from Alycin Braun, which played Grant.

The Duhawks cut into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Prairie Wolves added two insurances run in the top of the seventh inning. Rachel Mundt launched NWU's third home run of the game, a two-run homer, to push the lead to 11-3. Loras would add a run in the bottom of the seventh but it wouldn't add any more.

What's Next
Nebraska Wesleyan finishes its series with Loras College on March 21. First pitch for the final game is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
