Prairie Wolves Place Three At Doane Open


CRETE, Neb. (December 4, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling team competed at the Doane Open. NWU's Collin Quandt placed fourth, Zeth Gerkensmeyer placed fifth, and Cade Kammerer placed sixth. 

Quandt earned fourth place in the 157-lb weight class. Quandt pinned the first opponent of day in 2:56 then recorded another pin at 3:56 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Quandt fell to a wrestler from South Dakota State, an NCAA Division I member, then dropped the third-place by a narrow decision.

Gerkensmeyer took fifth place in the 165-lb weight class. Gerkensmeyer opened with a bye then won in the quarterfinals with a 9-4 decision. After falling the semifinals and consolation-semis, Gerkensmeyer won the fifth place match by medical forfeit.

Kammerer was sixth in the 165-lb weight class. Kammerer fell in the opening match then received a bye and advanced from the consolation round two match with a medical forfeit. In the consolation round three match, Kammerer battled hard and was victorious with a 5-4 decision. After falling in the consolation-semis, Kammerer had to medical forfeit the fifth place match.
