NWU Powers Past Luther


DECORAH, Iowa (December 4, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team defeated Luther, 80-62, for its fourth straight win and second consecutive conference road win. The Prairie Wolves open conference play 2-0 for the fourth time in the last five seasons. 

After taking a five-point lead into halftime, NWU combined hot shooting with lockdown defense to cruise to victory in the second half. The Prairie Wolves hit five three-pointers and shot 51.5 percent from the field in the second half. Defensively, Nebraska Wesleyan frustrated the Norse over the final 20 minutes. Luther was only able to hit one three-pointer and was just 11-of-31, 35.5 percent, from the field in the half.

For the game, NWU shot 49.2 percent from the field, its highest shooting percentage this season. The Prairie Wolves were also 34.6 percent from behind the arc, its best mark over the last three games. Additionally, Nebraska Wesleyan shot over 70 percent at the free-throw for the fourth straight game as Luther was the third consecutive opponent to shoot under 66 percent at the free-throw line. The Prairie Wolves outscore the Norse 17-4 on fast-break points in the win as well. 

Landon Torneten and Carter Glenn combined for 42 of the team's 80 points. Torneten and Glenn scored 21 points apiece, which were career-highs for both student-athletes. Torneten connected on four three-pointers, also a career-best, and is just the second Prairie Wolf to hit four three-pointers in a game this year. Peter Lash added 13 points, with 10 of those in the second half. Lash also grabbed a game-best eight rebounds. Glenn and Austin Endorf were each credited with three assists for NWU.
