Balance Attack Helps Prairie Wolves Control Bearcats


SALEM, Ore. (December 30, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball team defeated Williamette University, 94-77, to close out its two-game Oregon road trip. 

NWU's offense lit up WU with four players scoring in double figures. The Prairie Wolves finished with a season–best 43.5 three-point shooting percentage. From the field, Nebraska Wesleyan was 43.5 percent, it second-highest mark this season.

A night after scoring a career-high in points, Landon Torneten improved that number. Torneten led the Prairie Wolves with 23 points to combine with Carter Glenn's 20 points. Torneten went a perfect 4-for-4 on three-pointers. Glenn was also credited with seven assists, a career-best and tied for the most by a Prairie Wolf this season.

Peter Lash finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds, Lash's second consecutive night with a double-double and fifth time this season. Additionally, Lash scored in double figures for the 10th straight game. Josh Rogers came off the bench to score 11 points, the second time in three games Rogers scored at least 10 points. Jack Groteke hit three three-pointers off the NWU bench as well.

A quick start saw the Bearcats take a 10-4 advantage less than three minutes into the game but it wouldn't last long. Over the next four plus minutes, NWU countered with a 15-4 run and cruised from that point on. The Prairie Wolves used a 51.5 shooting percentage (17-for-33) and 45.5 three-point shooting percentage (5-for-11) for a 43-35 haftime lead. 

In the second half, Nebraska Wesleyan continued its offensive attack and stretched its lead to 17 points with almost 10 minutes left in the game. NWU continued to hit from the three-point arc  in the second frame, shooting 41.7 percent (5-for-12) from three and was 47.1 percent from the field (16-for-34).
