Three Wrestlers Place At Augsburg Invitational


MINNEAPOLIS (November 20, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling team had three individual earn places at the Augsburg Invitational in Minneapolis. Chase Kammerer finished in fifth-place and Zeth Gerkensmeyer and Christian Keller both finished in sixth-place.

Kammerer competed in the 174-lb freshmen bracket. In the first round, Kammerer won with a 13-7 decision before falling in the quarterfinals. Kammerer bounced back in the consolation round with an 11-7 decision then won in the consolation semifinals with a 7-4 decision. In the fifth-place match, Kamerer recorded a pin in 3:56 to secure the victory.

Gerkensmeyer competed in the 165-lb gold bracket. After a bye and a medical forefeit, Gerkensmeyer fell in the quarterfinal match but responded with a 10-4 decision in the consolation round. In the consolation semifinal, Gerkensmeyer picked a tough 5-2 decision before dropping the fifth-place match.

Keller saw in action in the freshmen 141-lb bracket. Opening with a bye, Keller was upended in the next round. Keller answered with a win in the consolation round three match via pin in 4:38. Keller tallied another pin in just 2:10 in the next round and advanced to the consolation semifinals. After a loss in the consolation semifinal match, Keller scored a 13-3 major decision in the fifth-place match.
