Prairie Wolves Thump Simpson

LINCOLN, Neb. (October 30) - The Nebraska Wesleyan football team defeated Simpson College, 44-14, in Abel Stadium. The victory gave head coach Brian Keller his 100th career win against a conference opponent and also snapped a two-game losing skid for NWU.

The Prairie Wolves dominated the Storm in all three phases of the game. Offensively, NWU put up 440 yards of total offense, the second-most this season. On the defensive side of the ball, Nebraska Wesleyan allowed a season-low 264 yards and forced three turnovers. The special teams converted all three field goals and all five extra points.

The offense ran a season-high 86 plays and controlled the game by possessing the ball for over 41 minutes, also a season-best. The charge was led behind Carter Terry's third 300-yard passing game of the year. Terry tossed for 304 yards with 24 completions and three scores.

Kevin Tims was credited with eight grabs for 120 yards and a score. Tims broke 100 yards for the fourth time this season. David O'Connell had two receiving touchdowns and finished with 86 yards. Josh Romain accounted for 135 all-purpose yards and was just four rushing yards shy of a second 100-yard rushing game this season.

Simpson struggled in the second half against Nebraska Wesleyan's defense as they allowed just 43 in the second half. In the fourth quarter, the defense gave up only 20 passing yards and 31 total yards. NWU's defense forced SC into three turnovers. It is the most takeaways by the defense since the first game of the season when it had four; it is also the third multiple takeaway game in 2021.

Jacob Gramann led the team with 11 stops. Dakota Prorok and Karrell Simpson both record an interception with Jacob Garnas forcing and recovering a fumble. 23 different players recorded a tackle in the victory.

Austin Neufeld had a career afternoon in the kicking game. Neufeld booted a career long 43-yard field goal to break a 7-7 tie with 2:22 left in the first quarter. The field goal was the longest by a Prairie Wolf since September 23, 2017. Neufeld then connected on a 37-yarder in the second quarter and drilled a 35-yard in the third quarter. Additionally, Neufeld was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points.
