ORLANDO – The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball season came to a close on Friday with a pair of losses on the spring trip in Orlando, Fla. NWU lost 12-10 to Juniata then had a 3-2 setback to Olivet College in what would become the teams last game.
The Prairie Wolves (6-7-1) pounded out 19 hits in the game against Juniata and tried to mount a late comeback but came up just short. Juniata led 12-3 five innings however the Prairie Wolves came on strong in the final three innings to score seven runs.
NWU had eight extra base hits, including seven doubles and one home runs.
Derek Kolbush led the way going 3-for-6 with two doubles and a HR.
Mason Bennett also had two doubles and
Riley Ward was 3-for-6 with a double and two stolen bases.
Daniel Hundley was the starting pitcher and took the loss allowing six runs (three earned) in two innings.
Game two was much different with the Prairie Wolves getting only four total hits dropping the 3-2 game to Olivet College. Olivet was able to break open a 2-2 game with a run in the 8
th inning to secure the victory.
Both of the Prairie Wolves runs were unearned, scoring on an RBI single from Bennett in the 5
th and then
Wyatt Stute scored his second run of the day in the 7
th on an error. Bennett was 2-3 accounting for half of the team's hits.
Noah Unger pitched the first 6 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Brady Harrison took the loss allowing one run in his 1 1/3 innings of work.
