LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's tennis team played their first dual of the 2019-20 season on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8) at Knight Fieldhouse on the NWU campus. Doane University defeated the Prairie Wolves 7-2 in the first match under coach
Lee Steinbrook.
NWU won one doubles match and got another singles victory against the former conference rival Tigers.
Cole Lohoefener and
Hayden Retzlaff teamed up to win their #3 doubles match 8-4 over Sam Coy/Milo Ciotti for the first point of the day. At No. 1 doubles,
Spencer Anderson and
Max Rademacher fell in a tightly contested match 8-7.
Retzlaff was the lone winner in singles action for the Prairie Wolves taking a 3-6, 6-2, 14-12 win in a thrilling match at No. 6 singles. Another three set match was at No. 5 singles where Lohoefener fell 6-7, 5-3, 10-5 in his match against Shingirayi Kamuchecka.
The Prairie Wolves (0-1) will have another home dual against a former conference school next Saturday when they host Morningside College.
