LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan played even with 10
th-ranked Loras College in the first half, but the hot shooting Duhawks put together a huge 3
rd quarter to pull away and earn the 79-58 victory over the Prairie Wolves on Senior Day Saturday (Feb. 22) at Snyder Arena.
The NWU women's basketball team finishes the season with a 7-17 overall record, going 3-13 in league play. Loras moves to 22-3 and 13-3 in conference.
Nebraska Wesleyan led the nationally-ranked Duhawks by one point after the first quarter 20-19 and kept up the good play in the second quarter. A basket at the buzzer by
Caitlin Navratil tied the game at 33-33 heading into the locker room halftime.
Loras came out firing in the second half, hitting their first eight shots of the period and missing only two total attempts in the third quarter. They went 11-13 from the field and 3-3 at the foul line to outscore NWU 27-12 in the quarter. A big reason for the output was inside layups by Marissa Schroeder who had a monster game.
Schroeder finished the game with 33 points and 11 rebounds, going 9-14 from the field and a perfect 13-13 at the free throw line. Madison Haslow also reached double figures for the Duhawks with 16 points.
For the Prairie Wolves, they ended the game shooting 38.1 percent from the floor and 7-22 on 3-pointers. NWU was outscored by 12 in the paint and Loras held a +16 advantage on the glass.
