SUPERIOR, WIS. – Nebraska Wesleyan split a pair of matches on Saturday to finish their trip north to the state of Wisconsin. NWU defeated Crown College and dropped a match to the host school Wisconsin-Superior at the Subway Stinger Classic.
The Prairie Wolves are off to a 6-2 start in 2019, just three wins short of their win total from the entire 2018 season.
NWU swept past Crown College to start the day in routine fashion winning in scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-13. Once again this season the Prairie Wolves held their opponents to a negative hitting percentage with Crown swinging -.020 as a team. NWU hit .210 and had early twice as many kills as Crown.
Hannah Bellinghausen led the Prairie Wolves with seven total kills, while
Nicole Gonzales led the team with 10 points. Gonzales had six kills, 13 digs and a team-high four service aces.
Anna Gottsch dished out 11 assists and
Kelsie Stovall had a team-high 20 digs in the win.
Nyah Chambers and
Cora Svoboda both added six kills in the match. Chambers hit .417 and Svoboda had three blocks.
A five-match winning streak was snapped in the final match of the night when UW-Superior won 3-1 over the Prairie Wolves. UWS won in scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15.
Whitney Jensen had a huge match for the Prairie Wolves with 19 kills and a .552 hitting percentage. Jensen only had three errors in 29 attempts while adding eight digs. Bellinghausen also reached double figures in kills with 12.
Gottsch posted a double-double with 33 assists and 14 digs with Stoval recording 24 digs.
