LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team opened the 2019-20 season on Saturday with a pair of American Rivers Conference matches in their only home appearance of the fall schedule.
NWU fell 8-1 to Wartburg College in a match that was played at Waverly High School, then dropped a 9-0 decision to Luther College at Woods Park in a match that had to be moved indoors due to rain.
The highlight of the day was in the Wartburg match when NWU freshman
Brooke Sailer won her match at No. 1 singles defeating the Knights Hannah Fox. Sailer dropped the opening set 6-2, then came back to win 6-0 and 7-5 in the third set.
Wartburg won the other five singles matches in straight sets and took all three doubles matches.
Against Luther, the Prairie Wolves lost all three doubles matches with the closest coming at No. 1 singles when Sailer and
Kailey Jay-Kissler fell 8-3.
Kissler also played the most competitive singles match on the afternoon at the No. 3 spot. She fell 7-6, 6-3 to Kelsey Kruse of Luther.
