LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan capped off their successful homestand weekend on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 shutout victory over Johnson & Wales in women's soccer action at Abel Stadium.
NWU's shutout victory was their seventh of the year and moved the overall record to 9-1. Johnson & Wales drops to 2-7 overall.
The match was never in doubt with the Prairie Wolves scoring three early goals, getting a big halftime lead then cruising in the second half.
Scoring got started in the 6
th minute when
Jenna DeJonge scored off a rebound.
Annie Platt scored the next goal in the 12
th minute off an assist by
Christina Oleartchick. Oleartchick then converted a penalty kick 46 seconds later to make the score 3-0.
NWU got their final goal of the first half in the 35
th minute when
Regan Delozier scored off a rebound.
In the second half the Prairie Wolves remained on the attack getting a goal by
Simone Collins in the 68
th minute.
Johnson & Wales had only five shot attempts in the match compared to 14 by the Prairie Wolves.
The Prairie Wolves are now set to begin American Rivers Conference play next Saturday (Oct. 5) when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to face the University of Dubuque.
