GRINNELL, Iowa – Another match, another shutout for the Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team when the Prairie Wolves shutout Grinnell College 2-0 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22) in Grinnell, Iowa.
NWU is off to a terrific start to the season with a 7-1 overall record, with six shutouts in the seven wins. The Prairie Wolves have outscored their opponents 26-2 in the eight matches this season, needing only one more win to equal their total from one year ago.
The Prairie Wolves scored on goal in each half and contained the Pioneers offensive attack en route to their seventh win of the season.
Oliva Munroe got the scoring started for the Prairie Wolves with a goal in the 29
th minute off an assist by
Jenna DeJonge. That 1-0 score would remain on the scoreboard as the two teams went into halftime.
In the second half, the Prairie Wolves were able to extend their lead on a goal by
Kaitlyn Sullivan. Sullivan converted a penalty kick in the 70
th minute and that lead would be too much for Grinnell to overcome.
Nebraska Wesleyan out shot Grinnell 13-7 in the match, with eight total shots on goal.
Liz Wolf posted her second straight shutout in goal for the Prairie Wolves with four saves.
The Prairie Wolves will have a week off before returning to their home turf next weekend for a pair of matches.
