Mt. Vernon, Iowa – Early season dominance continued for the Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team on Sunday (Sept. 1) with the Prairie Wolves posting their second straight 5-0 shutout victory when they blanked Cornell College on their home turf in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
NWU has now outscored their opponents 10-0 in their two opening weekend victories to start the year 2-0.
The Prairie Wolves jumped out to a quick lead as the match was never in question. NWU scored three goals in the first half, then added two more in the second half as five different Prairie Wolves players were able to find the open net.
Megan Cooper got the scoring started with the first goal of the match in the 24
th minute.
Simone Collins scored the next goal of the match in the 30
th minute, then right before the halftime break
Regan Delozier scored off an assist from
Makenzie Haskins-Rowe.
In the second half, the Prairie Wolves continued to pour it on with two additional goals.
Kaitlyn Sullivan started it off in the 69
th minute from
Carah Criner, then Haskins-Row scored the final goal of the match in the 82
nd minute, also on an assist by Criner.
Nebraska Wesleyan ended the match with 18 total shot attempts, including 11 shots on goal compared to only two shots on goal from the Rams.
Liz Wolf and
Leslie Borges combined to earn the shutout in goal with Wolf starting and playing the first 69 minutes before Borges closed it out.
The Prairie Wolves have a week off before returning to the field next weekend with a pair of matches in Minnesota.
