COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Two second half goals lifted Saint John's University past Nebraska Wesleyan University in men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 31 in Collegeville, Minn.
For the second straight day the Prairie Wolves held a lead going into halftime, but were unable to hold on to earn a win. NWU is now 0-1-1 to start the 2019 season.
The Prairie Wolves scored the first match of the game right before halftime when freshman
Royce Austen scored his second goal of the year in the 43
rd minute. Austen scored on a shot from 25 yards out off an assist from
Alex Aguilar.
Saint John's, in their first match of the year, was able to come out ahead in the second half. They tied the match in the 54
th minute on a goal by Brian Pacceli.
With the match tied 1-1, Saint John's had a penalty kick in the 79
th minute. Kagan Foster was able to convert the kick giving the Johnnies the lead and they would hold on to earn the win.
SJU held a 17-8 advantage on shot attempts for the match. The Prairie Wolves had only three shots on goal, while SJU ended with eight.
Sam Lesoing recorded six saves as the NWU starting goalkeeper.
The Prairie Wolves will have a week to regroup before they head back to Minnesota next weekend for two more matches.
