Women Dominate Wisconsin Lutheran 5-0 in Season Debut

PELLA, Iowa – A fast start led to a dominating performance by the Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team in a 5-0 shutout victory over Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday afternoon (Aug. 30) at Central College in Pella, Iowa.  In the 2019 season opener, the Prairie Wolves left no doubt in who was the best team on the field.

The Prairie Wolves scored a pair of goals in the first ten minutes and continued to add to their scoring total throughout the match.  Annie Platt scored a pair of goals in the opener to lead the Prairie Wolves attack that had 32 shots on goal, compared to only five for the overmatched Wisconsin Lutheran squad.

NWU got on the board first in the 6th minute with Suzie McDonald scoring the initial goal of the year.  McDonald scored on an assist from Jenna DeJonge.  Only 43 seconds later the Prairie Wolves struck again as Annie Platt scored the first of her two goals on the day.

Olivia Munroe capped the NWU first half scoring with a goal in the 17th minute from Isabel Dragoo.  Munroe's goal gave NWU a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half the Prairie Wolves added two more goals.  Last year's leading scorer Kaitlyn Sullivan got her first goal of the year off an assist from Megan Cooper.  The final goal of the day came in the 80th minute when Platt found the open next once again.

Liz Wolf and Leslie Borges combined to post the shutout in goal.  Of the 32 total shots by the Prairie Wolves, 15 were on goal.  Platt led the way with six shot attempts with Munroe finishing with five.
