Season Opener Ends in 3-3 Draw

Pella, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan opened its 2019 men's soccer season on Friday afternoon (Aug. 30) with a 3-3 double overtime draw against University of Ozarks in a match that was played at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
 
 The Prairie Wolves held an early 3-1 lead at halftime, but the Eagles scored two second half goals to send the match into overtime.
 
In the first overtime period, NWU was the only team that had a shot attempt in the ten minute period.  Overtime two was more action packed with Ozarks getting four shot attempts, but the Prairie Wolves did not allow the ball in goal to end in the draw.
 
Ozarks got the scoring started right away, getting a goal just 1:33 into the match.  Once the initial shock of the quick goal went away, the Prairie Wolves got on a roll and took control.
 
The first goal of the season came as an own goal for NWU in the 27th minute.  Just 44 seconds later, the Prairie Wolves found themselves ahead when freshman Royce Austen scored his first collegiate goal to put NWU up 2-1.
 
Right before halftime, Luke Livingston converted a penalty kick opportunity making the score 3-1 in favor of the Prairie Wolves heading into halftime.
 
Drew Mott scored his second goal of the match for Ozarks in the 57th minute to pull the Eagles within one goal.  They were able to tie the match at 3-3 in the 63rd minute when Ozarks got an own goal which would prove to be the final goal on the day.
 
NWU ended the match with 11 total shot attempts, including six shots on goal compared to 12 shots and 6 on goal for Ozarks.
 
The Prairie Wolves board the bus and head north to Minnesota for a match at Saint John's on Saturday afternoon.
