STORM LAKE, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan picked up their 20
th win of the 2019 season as the Prairie Wolves went on the road and took two games over Buena Vista University winning both contests with a score of 3-2.
The Prairie Wolves move to 20-6 overall and 5-1 in American Rivers Conference play to remain in the top half of the league standings. BVU stays winless in league play and drops to 14-14 overall.
Alycin Braun hit a double in the top of the 3
rd inning and came around to score on an RBI by
Danelle Snyder to give the Prairie Wolves a 1-0 lead. They made it 2-0 in the top of the 4
th inning when
Kailey Meyer led off the inning with a single. Pinch runner
Savanna Lakin moved to second on a single from
Taylor Styskal and an error put her on 3
rd base. Lakin then scored on a wild pitch.
BVU was able to tie the game in the bottom of the 4
th inning when the Beavers scored a pair of unearned runs.
In the 6
th inning the Prairie Wolves went ahead for good as Meyer doubled and scored on the game-winning hit from
Destiny Indra.
Meyer, Styskal and Braun each had two singles to lead the NWU offense as the Prairie Wolves finished with 11 hits. Meyer got the complete game victory allowing just five hits with six strikeouts giving up two unearned runs.
Game two got off a great start as well for the Prairie Wolves as
Morgan Shipley led off with a single and scored on an RBI by Meyer.
The Prairie Wolves led 3-0 after four innings scoring two more in the bottom of the 4
th.
Payton Swanson singled to start the inning. With two outs, catcher interference was called to put Styskal on base. Braun and
Sydney Nickerson hit back-to-back RBI doubles making the score 3-0.
Buena Vista made a late charge scoring one run in the 5
th inning and another in the 6
th inning. The Beavers had two runners on base after an error extended the inning. Meyer was able to get a pop up to end the threat. She got the final three outs in the 7
th inning to earn her second win of the day.
Meyer pitched the final 4 2/3 innings striking out six to improve to 11-4. NWU had only five hits in game two but made the most of the hits.
NWU is back in action at Central College this weekend in American Rivers Conference action.
