PELLA, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan erupted for 6 runs in the top of the 6
th inning to overcome a deficit and roll past Central College 9-2 in game two of an American Rivers Conference softball doubleheader between teams tied in the league standings. Central opened the afternoon with a 3-2 victory.
NWU is now 21-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play to stay tied with Central for third place in the league standings. The Prairie Wolves are only one game back of first place with four doubleheaders remaining on the year.
Kailey Meyer blasted a solo home run against the wind blowing in from right field to start the top of the 6
th inning and tie the game at 2-2. From there the Prairie Wolves recorded four more hits, walked twice and took advantage of two errors to score 6 runs as 12 batters came to the plate in the inning.

Morgan Shipley and
Rachel Mundt all had RBI singles in consecutive at-bats, then Meyer got another RBI in her second plate appearance of the inning when she walked with the based loaded. NWU led 7-2 and scored two more runs in the 7
th inning. Shipley hit a 2-run single to left field to complete a three-hit game and give the Prairie Wolves nine runs.
Grace Sommer controlled the Central batters allowing just three baserunners after the first inning. The Dutch scored two runs on two hits in the 1
st inning but only had two hits the rest of the game. Sommer moved to 9-2 by allowing four hits with two strikeouts in the complete game win.
Nebraska Wesleyan got ahead 2-0 in the first game of the afternoon. An error and walk put two runners on with no outs in the 2
nd inning. Prai walked with the bases loaded to bring in Meyer, then Shipley got an RBI single through the infield shift to bring in
Destiny Indra.
Central responded with three runs in the bottom of the 3
rd inning and neither team would score the rest of the way.
The Prairie Wolves had four singles in the final five innings but none of the runners were able to advance past second base.
Six NWU players recorded hits in the game, led by Meyer who was 2-4 on the day. Meyer was also the starting pitcher allowing three runs on eight hits in the complete game.
NWU is back at home on Tuesday to host Simpson College at Seng Park.
